Summer forecast: Strong tourism numbers
Summer got off to a strong start in Puerto Peñasco as more than 30,000 tourists poured into town for the second weekend in June with the overlapping of two major events: the Utah Rotary District Conference, and Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers’ Circus Mexicus.
According to information provided by the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), tourism over the busy weekend pushed occupancy rates up to 83% for most beach accommodations and area hotels.
The majority of tourists visiting Puerto Peñasco that weekend included young and older adults, particularly from Arizona and California, who were largely part of those here to attend Circus Mexicus. This annual concert, which included more than 10 additional groups, attracted more than 5000 people to the area – even if not concert goers themselves.
In addition, the Utah Rotary District 5420 District Conference drew hundreds of visitors to our shores at around the same time, along with important benefits for many parts of the community.
The OCV remarked weekend occupancy rates in Puerto Peñasco from Memorial Day through the second weekend in June have easily remained at over 50%. This points to a strong summer tourism season, encompassing the vacation periods of visitors from Mexico, the U.S., and beyond.
